Future global coating additives grow at an average annual rate of 5%

Market research agencies Kusumgar, Nerlfi & Growney announced the results of market research on global paint additives and inks. The data shows that rheological modifiers, foam inhibitors, wetting agents, dispersants and friction reducing additives are the most demanding ones. In 2013, a total of 1.02 million tons of such additives were consumed, totaling 4.66 billion tons, and the average annual market growth rate in 2014-2018 is expected to be 5%.

In 2013, the consumption of rheology modifier accounted for 40% of the total amount of additives. The rheology modifiers in the market were mainly fiber, synthetic and inorganic materials. Dispersant consumption ranks second, commonly used polyacrylates and polycarbonates for titanium dioxide additives, fillers for water-based architectural pigments, and polymers for specialty pigments. Second, foam inhibitors accounted for 17% of consumption, 13% for friction additives, and 11% for humectants (due to stringent environmental requirements, the use of alkyl phenol ethoxylates has become less and less).
