Glass recycling guidelines

The glass recycling guidelines were drafted by the Joint Research Center. The guidelines state that shards of glass must comply with relevant codes or standards, otherwise they should not be used directly in glass manufacturing or direct melting. Among them, metals, organic matter, stones, etc. can be classified as a group of glass fragments as secondary raw materials.

The final recovery standard is designed to stimulate the European recycling market, reduce unnecessary administrative burdens, and provide a safe, clean glass recycling process. The guidelines also specify which glass fragments can be directly used as raw materials for other products and which cannot.

In the past, the lack of clear and uniform standards led some EU countries to recycle some incompatible glass waste, resulting in a lot of waste. Therefore, the Joint Research Center has introduced uniform standards by evaluating the value and use of glass. The implementation of this standard also shows that the process of European glass recycling standardization has taken another big step.
